What to Expect
The second step of our screening process involves a one to two hour interview with the position's supervisor and, sometimes, another member of the hiring team. This is the second of three interview steps that individuals must complete to be considered for a position. Those three steps are:
Phone (screening) interview — Conducted by phone by a member of staff. Typically lasts 15-30 minutes. All candidates who meet the minimum qualifications for an open position are invited for a phone interview.
Second (full) interview — Conducted in-person or by Zoom by the position’s supervisor. Typically lasts 1-2 hours, depending on the position and skills assessment. Candidates who pass the screening process are invited for the second interview. Prior to completing the second interview, most candidates are asked to complete a MinistrySafe training and test and a skills assessment.
Third interview (meet & greet) — Conducted in-person with a group of Fortress stakeholders (typically fellow staff members at the peer and supervisor level). Typically lasts 1- 1 1/2 hours. Candidates who are being seriously considered as a finalist for the position are invited to the meet & greet.
Unless otherwise noted, applicants are invited to dress casually. As a child-serving center, our staff typically wear jeans and a t-shirt, so your interviewers will not be dressed up!
How to Prepare
Ahead of the second interview, we strongly encourage candidates to learn about the mission and programs of Fortress, and to review our core values and our statement of faith.
Most candidates are asked to complete a MinistrySafe sexual abuse awareness training and quiz before arriving for the second interview. You also likely received instructions for a skills assessment in your email, which may need to be prepared and returned ahead of the interview.
We believe strongly that working at Fortress is more than just a job — it’s a ministry and a calling.
