Born in Connecticut, but raised a Florida girl, Yesenia Suarez’s heart lies in the South. Yesenia - aka Yesi - grew up in a bilingual home, as her mother is Costa-Rican and her father is Colombian. She recently moved to Fort Worth with her fiancé Steven, her “fur baby” Bentley, and her three bonus daughters.
From a young age, Yesi always knew that her heart longed to help others, therefore, she studied Psychology at the University of Central Florida. Not only did she choose her educational path to help others, she also has made it her own personal mission in life to love others. A firm believer in her life motto “Love others, Love God”, she allows her faith to help her along the path of joy, love, peace and community. Yesenia has volunteered with youth, the homeless community, and food banks. She has a 10-year background in childcare and served as a teacher for the last two years, forming a trusting bond with the families of all her students as well. While teaching afforded her many skills that she now translates into her leadership role, she also brings relevant lived experience to her job. Since her parents are immigrants, she has seen her own family prevail and prosper through difficult times. Witnessing and experiencing her own family triumphs and tribulations have made her aware of the things in life that are important and how to achieve them, all while maintaining a positive outlook in life.
Spending time with family, friends and her “fur-baby” is what puts a smile on Yesi’s face. Some of the hobbies she enjoys are reading, being physically active, philosophical studies, decorating, shopping, creative writing/arts, and dancing. Her and her fiancé also participate in many hobbies together including any outdoor activities that involve nature, traveling, and being their own “food critics”; exploring all the local restaurants that are new to them. One goal Yesenia strives to achieve is being mentally and physically “present in the moment” and enjoying what life offers her daily.
Yesenia is grateful to be a part of this remarkable community as Fortress’s Parent Program Coordinator. She’s looking forward to helping families overcome personal and generational challenges to achieve long term stability for themselves and their children, and ultimately, to experience joyful and fulfilling lives.
